Supporting People
'Supporting People' is the system through which local councils fund support for tenants of sheltered or supported housing. It pays for services that help older or disabled people to continue living at home or increase their independence within their home. The charge for this service is included in the rent and the Council carries out a financial assessment on any claim made by a tenant. If the claim is accepted the funding is sent direct to the Association for the claimant. The main aims of Supporting People are to:
- Maximise independent living.
- Provide well planned housing-related support services.
- Ensure that support offers good value and complements existing care services.
- Base services on the needs of the individual tenant.
The Resident Manager reviews each support plan on a regular basis. However, if a tenant wants an earlier review they can contact their Resident Manager who will arrange it. This is very important as the needs of individual tenants may change at any time.
We offer the following types of support to tenants:
- Maximising your income and benefits entitlement.
- Accessing other services, such as care services provided by Social Services.
- Preventing problems that can lead to a stay in hospital, care or homelessness.
- Help with moving to independent living for the first time.
- Access to aids and adaptations in the home.
- Support to enable people to remain in their homes.
- Enabling people to widen their social contacts
