Supporting People
'Supporting People' is the system through which local councils fund support for tenants of sheltered or supported housing. It pays for services that help older or disabled people to continue living at home or increase their independence within their home.The charge for this service is included in the rent and the Council carries out a financial assessment on any claim made by a tenant. If the claim is accepted the funding is sent direct to the Association for the claimant.

The main aims of Supporting People are to: CSHA takes a formalised approach to support planning. Before an individual is offered accommodation an interview and visit will take place with the Resident Manager and the prospective tenant. As part of this process, any help with services or access to services or individual needs that a tenant may have will be noted. When a tenant is offered accommodation and moves in, the Resident Manager at the scheme will complete a support plan. This examines a tenant’s needs and the help they may require. It also looks at ways to offer help and support or how to access relevant services that can provide it.

The Resident Manager reviews each support plan on a regular basis. However, if a tenant wants an earlier review they can contact their Resident Manager who will arrange it. This is very important as the needs of individual tenants may change at any time.
